My altar is both a decorative and a working space, usually decorated according to the season. I follow two separate paths, but represent both of them on the same altar due to space considerations; my moon celebrations and magick workings usually follow a Wiccan-like structure, and I celebrate the Wheel of the Year and perform daily devotions in the Ár nDraíocht Féin Druid tradition. Jade Val’s Kemetic Orthodox Box Shrine
(Jade Val is Kemetic Orthodox- here’s a summary page if you’re not familiar with this path or the terms she uses.)
Without being biased this is the best type of shrine to start off at, as a Beginner or Remetj. It contains all the requirements for senut (box/cabinet, white linen, two bowls, candle, incense and natron) with enough room to dedicate the shrine to a Name of Netjer. Continue reading
Spirit House – Yewberry
When my son was young (I think he was 9 or 10) he started spontaneously building these little houses from found materials around our yard. Each consisted of a circular bed of crushed stone from our driveway and various bits of plant material woven and stacked to form a hollow dome. Continue reading
L’s offering to Kinish Ahau

Dia de los Muertos Altar – Yewberry
“This is my Dia de los Muertos altar from back in 2009. The celebration isn’t explicitly religious in nature, but my friends and I get together to honor our respective Beloved Dead, and to say goodbye to the previous year. This adieu can include ended relationships, job changes, the banishing of negative attitudes, etc.” Continue reading
Shrine for Osiris and Set – Devo
“My formal shrine is a wooden cabinet that hangs on the wall. I prefer to keep my icons hidden, as would have been done in the temples of ancient Egypt in what is typically called a Kar shrine (Naos in Greek). Set pushed me to get an entirely wooden case last year (as opposed to particle board with veneer) and I ended up getting this case- which is made of reclaimed Teak wood.” Continue reading
